Rommai Villa – A true escape on the edge of Chiang Rai

Welcome to Rommai Villa, a traditional Northern Thailand family compound and guest house, located on the northern outskirts of Chiang Rai near Rachabhat University. Our beautiful guest villas are perfectly located away from the noise and commotion of the city, yet only a short drive from everything on offer in Chiang Rai and the surrounding area.

The nearby university lake makes an excellent place for a morning or evening jog or power-walk and can also be cycled using one of our loaner bicycles.

Our family guest house consists of a number of individual villas distributed around beautiful gardens and a central lake with fountains to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Each is built in the traditional northern Thai style, elevated from the ground on giant hardwood piles. Many were former traditional farm houses, rescued from across the North and North East of the country that have been relocated here. Each has been lovingly restored using polished hardwoods and other traditional materials by local craftsmen. Some are over 100 years old despite termites and a very humid climate in Thailand.

Each villa is furnished with new comfortable modern beds and spacious modern bathrooms, and each is surrounded by a traditional balcony for you to sit together and watch the sun go down with a drink in hand. If relaxation is your aim, then look no further.

Mi Casa Su Casa

Having built and established a number of Bangkok’s top restaurants, the Chantakul family purchased an area of land on the outskirts of Chiang Rai to construct their ideal family country home in which to semi-retire. An extensive and beautifully restored family house was soon joined by other villas for family members – sons, daughters and their own families.

Successful business careers in Bangkok and other far-away cities, means that family members are infrequent visitors to this tranquil escape and as such their villas are available for guests to use in their absence. Currently, 4 villas are available for guests to enjoy. Each has its own outside seating under a deck and verandah. A Common Area under the main family house serves as a dining area should guests wish to eat breakfast or dinner at the guest house. Free high speed WiFi persists throughout the compound along with ample parking space for guests to use. For those traveling without their own vehicles, a complimentary pickup service will whisk you the ten minutes from the Chiang Rai airport to Rommai Villa and Grab or taxis are plentiful to get you about.

Accommodations

Coconut (Family Suite Villa)

This is a 100 year old teak house on stilts that was transported to our compound originally for a family member but is now available for you and your family to rent. The family villa sleeps up to 3 adults and consists of a large bedroom with king bed and single bed and a lounge room with a sofa bed upon request for a 3rd adult or two small children.

This classically beautiful suite is surrounded by a large verandah with ample covered seating , an outside dining table and chairs and a small kitchen with microwave. Inside a modern spacious bathroom rounds out a beautiful way to spend a few days or longer in Northern Thailand.

Lemon (King Villa)

Our King villas sleep 2 people comfortably in luxurious king beds on polished hardwood floors. A modern tiled bathroom and verandah facing the lake and gardens is the perfect place for a morning coffee or evening sun-downer. Rooms come equipped with a small refrigerator, TV and indoor seating.

Pineapple (Deluxe Villa)

Deluxe villas sleep 2 people and 1 extra people, large verandah and polished hardwood floors. Luxury decoration with king bed, and modern tiled bathroom. This room is suitable for who want private space, chill, relax, and find the peaceful place. Rooms come equipped with a small refrigerator, TV and indoor seating.

Lemongrass (Superior Villa)

Superior Villa, most beautiful atmosphere villa facing pond and garden with ample covered seating. This villa sleeps up to 2 adults and 1 extra people, consist of large king bed, living area, and verandah in three side of the villa. This beautiful villa have nice modern bathroom, tv, refrigerator, and kettle. It will make your day in Chiang Rai if you simply stay here.

Amenities

All rooms come with a spacious modern tiled bathroom with rainfall showers, a hairdryer, soaps, shampoos and towels. Each room is equipped with a small refrigerator to keep food and evening drinks cool and an electric kettle with tea and coffee supplies for an afternoon cup of tea or morning coffee to start the day. Rooms are fitted with their own WiFi access points so you can remain connected to the outside world and most of the compound can receive a WiFi signal so you can sit on a swing and text or email. Great air conditioning removes the heat and humidity to allow you the perfect night’s sleep. Bicycles are available for you to explore the local countryside or to cycle to the local village for a massage or supplies.

We are open despite COVID and are taking extra steps to carefully sanitize each of our lovely rooms and all public spaces. As the pandemic declines with more and more people being vaccinated, and international travel restrictions abate, we will continue to monitor and adjust our approach to keep you safe and healthy.
